The International Year of Fruits and Vegetables was promoted by the FAO (Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations) with the aim of raising awareness about the importance of these products for human nutrition, food safety, health and sustainability.
With the slogan Fruits and vegetables, your dietary essentials the FAO established four objectives that were pursued throughout 2021:
1. Raise awareness of the health benefits of fruit and vegetable consumption.
2. Highlight and promote seasonal fruits and vegetables and those from our region.
3. Encourage healthy, balanced and diverse diets and lifestyles through the consumption of fruits and vegetables.
4. Reduce the loss and waste of fruits and vegetables in the food systems of these products.
